Research Notes: Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy for Lung Cancer

In the long-term fight against lung cancer, researchers worldwide have been working to determine prevention, early detection and treatment options. Read up on the latest research highlighting efficacy of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for lung cancer:

  • Virginia Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospital highlighted results showing that combining SBRT with other forms of treatment for non-small cell lung cancer can improve survival outcomes. Read more here.
  • Data collected by The German Society of Radiation Oncology showed that of 600 non-small cell lung cancer patients who underwent SBRT, low rates of the spread of their tumors were consistently found thanks in large part to the radiotherapy dosage.   • In a study completed by members of the Japan Clinical Oncology Group (JCOG), researchers examined the safety and efficacy of SBRT for 100 lung cancer patients treated over four years. Results show that patients exhibited minimal toxicity and overall survival rates doubled as compared to conventional radiation treatment. Read more at the Radiological Society of North America.
